- The Crow’s Quill is accepting submissions on the theme of “Darkest Endings” until November 10.
- Dusty Attic Publishing wants your spooky/fantastical short stories and poems.
- Nonfiction writers: You can send essays about pop culture, movies, geekery, and scifi/fantasy related topics to Interstellar Flight Magazine all year round.
- If you’ve got “unsettling, disconcerting adult market fiction,” body fluids wants it.
- Hearth & Coffin is accepting fiction, nonfiction and poetry on the theme of “Burn” until November 30.

- House of Gamut opens for short fiction and poetry on November 1 and you’ll probably want to hurry because they fill up quickly.
- Hexagon Magazine will be open from November 1-7 for short and flash fiction.
- Apparition Lit will open on November 15 and stay open until November 30 for submission on the theme of “Blight.”
Anthology Calls
- House of Gamut is also currently collecting short fiction for Winter in the City: A Collection of Dark Urban Stories. Deadline: March 31, 2024.
- Nēpenthé Press is open for folk horror stories for a new anthology until December 20.
Contests
- Crystal Lake’s Shallow Waters, a monthly flash fiction contest, is open until midnight at the end of November, whenever that takes place where you are.
